How the Shipping Time Calculator works

  1. Choose your transport type — Truckload, LTL, or Small Transport — and the trailer or vehicle type.
  2. Enter origin and destination by address or city and state.
  3. Set facility hours and date windows (optional) for the pickup and delivery locations.
  4. Add the driver's location (optional, truckload) and departure time to calculate a pickup ETA.
  5. Calculateto see driving distance, total transit hours, the earliest pickup, and an estimated delivery date and time — plus whether pickup and delivery fall within each facility's open hours.

What it accounts for that mileage alone doesn't

Most online estimators just divide distance by an average speed. This one models the real constraints that move a delivery date: federal Hours of Service limits that cap how far a driver covers in a day, the operating hours of the pickup and delivery facilities, the load type and equipment, and — for LTL — terminal routing based on historical lane records. That's why an 1,800-mile truckload shows multiple days of transit, and why a load that would reach a dock at 6 PM when it closes at 5 PM rolls to the next morning.

How does the Shipping Time Calculator estimate transit time?

Instead of dividing miles by an average speed, it estimates the driving distance between your origin and destination, then applies federal Hours of Service (HOS) limits, your load and equipment type, and the pickup and delivery facility hours to project a realistic earliest pickup and estimated delivery date and time.

Does it account for Hours of Service (HOS) regulations?

Yes. A driver can only legally drive so many hours per day, so long hauls span multiple days. The calculator caps daily driving accordingly rather than assuming a truck drives around the clock.

What's the difference between the Truckload, LTL, and Small Transport estimates?

Truckload moves point-to-point, so transit is mostly drive time. LTL travels through carrier terminals and is typically slower; our LTL estimates draw on historical lane records where available. Small Transport (sprinter or cargo van, box truck, pickup) is for smaller or expedited freight.

Why do pickup and receiving hours affect the estimate?

Freight can only be picked up or delivered while a facility is open. If a truck would arrive after hours, it waits for the next open window. Set each location's hours and the calculator flags whether your pickup and delivery land 'in window.'

Can it tell me when a driver will arrive at the pickup?

Yes. For truckload and small transport, enter the driver's current location and departure time and the calculator returns an estimated pickup ETA, which feeds into the overall transit estimate.

Does it support flatbed, reefer, and step deck?

Yes. For truckload and LTL you can choose Dry Van, Reefer, Flatbed, Step Deck, or Other so the estimate reflects your equipment.

How accurate are the transit estimates?

They're planning estimates. Real-world transit can shift with traffic, weather, appointment scheduling, and carrier availability. Use the result to set expectations, then confirm firm dates when you book.
