Hazmat Freight Shipping
Hazardous materials shipped as LTL, partial or full truckload. Mark the item as hazmat when you quote and add its class if you know it. LTL rates include each carrier's hazmat charge.
We don't ship explosives, radioactive materials or poison-inhalation hazards, on any service. We can quote every other hazmat class.

LTL, partial and truckload
Hazmat LTL
Pallets and crates of hazmat, quoted across national LTL carriers. Each rate includes that carrier's hazmat charge.
Hazmat partial
Larger hazmat loads that share a trailer, for shipments too big for LTL that don't need the whole truck.
Hazmat truckload
A dedicated trailer. Loads that require placards go with a driver who holds a hazmat endorsement, as federal rules require.
How it works
Mark the item hazmat
Tick HazMat on the freight item. Add the class if you have it.
Compare the rates
Each LTL rate includes that carrier's hazmat charge.
Add the hazmat details when you book
Each hazmat item's UN number, proper shipping name, hazard class and packing group (if any), plus a 24-hour emergency contact: phone, response company and contract number.
We follow it to delivery
Tracking and updates through delivery, the same as any other load.
What the shipper provides
Federal rules put classification, packaging and paperwork on the shipper. We book the carrier; we don't classify or package hazardous materials.
- Classification: the UN number, proper shipping name, class and packing group, from the product's safety data sheet (section 14)
- DOT-compliant packaging, with hazard labels and markings on each package
- Shipping papers with the hazmat description, a 24-hour emergency response number and the shipper's certification
- Emergency response information for each material (such as its safety data sheet or Emergency Response Guidebook page) with the shipping papers
- Placards offered to the carrier when the load requires them, unless the truck already displays the right ones
